Matt Everson got into the dance music scene in the early 90's by listening to the old happy hardcore compilations on tape, he then started going out to clubs, around 1997 at the age of 16, to big events such as Bowlers in Manchester, to see old skool legends such as Rat pack and Slipmatt. The style of music Matt used to listen to started to change as he got older and got into acts like The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers. Late 99 Matt started going to Gatecrasher and watched in amazement the likes of Scott Bond, Oakey and Paul Van Dyk. This is when something inside him started to change as Matt became more and more focused on the music and the different ways the DJ's were mixing to achieve different effects, the way the crowd would react when the DJ would drop a tune. This power of the DJ, the way he controlled the crowds and their emotions, completely enthralled Matt and this is when he realised he wanted to DJ.
With a lot of hard work, and practicing day in and day out, going out to different nights around the country, seeing different DJs and making new connections, helped Matt to increase his profile as a DJ. Five years later on Matt still has the same drive and enthusiasm he had when he did his 1st ever mix. Matt prides myself on his dedication and the effort he puts into every aspect of Djing.
In July 2004 Matt Everson co-founded subtract (
http://www.sub-tract.co.uk). He became disillusioned with the lack of quality dance nights in Manchester. From the beginning things started to pick up for Matt and he started to get recognition for the style he was playing. The positive reactions and the extra sets Matt was getting made him more determined to get even more sets and experience. Matt's main aim is to not only play music to the clubbers but to also entertain them and get them talking about his sets afterwards.
Matt considers himself to be very versatile and can play varied styles of music. His main style is playing pumping peak time trance, as he likes to call it, but can adapt to fit around the whole feel of the night. Matt has been getting plenty of attention from the likes of GOODGREEF presents NATIVE amongst other nights to DJ at, and has more gigs in the near future which he is very excited about. Matt has been recently scouted by Galaxy radio & ‘Crasher’ residents, Riley & Durrant to join them live on Galaxy radio for their well respected NuBreed show, hosted every Thursday from 11pm where they are joined in the studio by some of the finest new DJs and producers from across the globe. Matt played some of his favourite tracks at that time, had a very interesting interview with the lads and for the last hour he got the Galaxy Technics fired up for an exclusive hour hot mix. Through this Matt has received a lot of excellent feedback and even more gigs.

One of Matt’s biggest gigs is when he got booked to play at the Wildchild / Slinky / Sundissential present the almighty "London Sound System" event at the legendary Heaven in London, which was an amazing gig. Matt was also booked to play at the two day Forest Festival in Belgium on the 11th and 12th August, this is the first time Matt had played abroad and it turned out to be a massive event. Other events that he's played at are Subtract (resident), Goodgreef presents Native, Nts:essions (resident), Goodgreef North Gathering, Neomenia, Nubreed, Sunday sessions, Toast, Industry, and Matt was also a pioneer superstar DJ finalist in 2004.
These days everyone wants to be a DJ. Matt particularly respect the DJs who have worked hard and believe in the music they play, not just those who do it for the 'DJ' status. DJs who push boundaries, who have created a style and a following from nothing, purely through dedication and honesty, and the pure love of music has gained Matt's respect and admiration.
