It’s a dream set for every DJ – there are established DJs who would give their right arm to play at the legendary We Love… Sundays closing party in Ibiza.

But this dream could become reality for one lucky DJ! We Love… have a desire to search out and support new talent in dance music and are launching their We Love… Fresh Blood initiative. Each month a winner will be selected and featured on the We Love… DJ Mixes page and promoted by the We Love… team. Then We Love… fans worldwide will choose from the monthly victors to name an overall winner, who will get the coveted set at the closing party, and the ongoing support of We Love…!

Here are the latest winners of the We Love… Freshblood competition, from the May and June entries. There has been an absolute mountain of quality mixes to get through! Ultimately May’s winner was picked as Collins 303, whose mix of raucous hip hop, punk, breaks and house brought to mind the mash-up mixes of We Love… faves the Chemical Brothers (in the days of the Heavenly Social) and 2manydjs (think the Radio Soulwax mixes). Congratulations Collins 303!

Meanwhile, June’s winning mix is a much more chilled-out affair. Paddy Freeform’s mix of horizontal funk and cheeky covers of magical pop moments was the perfect antidote to the madness of the summer season, reflecting the laidback aspect of Ibiza perfectly. Well done Paddy!

Latest winner

July’s winner was Aberdeen’s first lady of twisted house, DJ Lunik. There have been many minimal-tech-progressive entries over the months, but Lunik’s stood out because it struck a great balance between the underground and the accessible; always driving and never losing momentum, the mix keeps an eye firmly on the dancefloor! Good stuff Lunik!

The Fresh Blood competition is now closed for entries! The monthly winners have been chosen, and what a fine and varied bunch they are too. The final monthly We Love… Fresh Blood winner turned out to be the overall winner, his unique blending of jacking beats and minimal grooves winning over the voting public.
