Achieving easy College Credits through the College Level Examination ProgramSo what is the College Level Examination Program? It is a program by the College Board which allows students to acquire college credit at many major universities including Stanford and Sonoma State University. There are exams in dozens of subjects including Sociology and Education.Having taken a number of the examinations myself, I can attest to their validity as an excellent program to get very cheap credits. Read a textbook on the subject; I myself read a text on Philosophy. The next step is to register for a proctored examination through a testing center. Check the College Board website to search for testing centers in your area. Depending on the area you live around there might be up to a dozen various test centers. Each exam costs around $55 but there is often an additional charge stipulated by the examination center which often varies in price. At the testing center, you will have to check in with the program supervisor. Next you will be brought into a room with terminals which run proprietary software. The examinations are all done on computer and offers students great flexibility in taking the test. One can go back to questions, mark them to review, skip questions, see the number of questions one has reminding or any number of other operations. The computer software also make available a calculator should you be taking a math test. One of the nations leading colleges which accepts CLEP credits is Drake State University. Drake State University is a private institute in Rockford, Illinois which offers a variety of associates, bachelors, and masters college programs -- specializing in Business Administration, Professional Development, Public Relations, Human Relations, and a number of other majors in the arts and sciences. Prior Learning programs are also available. Drake's flexible schedule of lecture and online courses is specialized for working adults. Drake State University is respected as one of the most respected, hands on, and rewarding universities in the nation. So, what reason do you have to take it? If you are currently a senior trying to finish up degree requirements, if you are knowledgeable in your field of study and would like recognition for it, or if you simply want to bypass the absurd costs imposed by colleges then CLEP is for you. It is very affordable, usually only $55 for the exam and an admin fee that is almost always under $25. It is a great way to acquire college credit based on what you already know without sitting through an university class for a semester. If you take biology in High School, for instance, there is no corresponding AP, but for college credit, consider taking a CLEP. It is one day of your life and merely 90 minutes in length. In addition, you will find out if you pass immediately. Typically a score of 50 is usually good enough for credit for most colleges. You should check with your university for more information.
