Dj's no good?
« on: April 10, 2004, 04:25:25 am »
sometimes i get upset when DJ's are disrespected.
some go into a vinyl shop come out with 15-20 records,
and the veteran comes out with 2-3..... i think its not a money issue.
Those 15-20 record that newbie got were probably o.k. but they werent gems?
i know personally i would only really like to spin @ max 20 of my 80 records.
becuase those 20 are gems the others are fillers.  Every DJ will learn this eventually....
and just like tiesto says and i say... the DJ industry is hard, a band goes to concerts all over the world and plays the same tracks, everyone is satisfied, but if  a DJ does that he will never be successful, that is why a dj doesnt get fillers, but instead gems, the one track out of 5 that you can just listen to again and again.....
i know  this one track i have chicane - no ordinary morning is a great track, i like it alot, but its hard to mix so i dont do it often, but just as an example that track was just  glowing, not often do tracks really let you escape, another track solar stone - 7 cities, that is a great one also, it just really takes you somewhere,

so.... buy the real gems, if you have the slightest doubt dont buy it

Haha, well, I'm the exact opposite of you then. I play almost all my records eventually, and when I shop for vinyls, I buy atleast 10, and more if money permits  =)

I buy whatever I like, and I usually have good taste  8)

New! Radiation flavor!

Unfortunately, I dont have the option of not spinning any of my vinyls. I'll run out before an hour is done.

It SUCKS, no vinyl stores within 7-8 hours of me, and they dont even have good trance or breaks.

The ones I do have are pretty good, and I"m constantly paying insane shipping and ordering off the Internet, so hopefully eventually I'll have enough to not spin one during a set.

I went to buy records last week.

1 and 1/2 hours later.

I walked out with 3 records.  (2)Trance and, (1) Breaks

Some days are good and others are not.  Most of the time I only end up with a few.  Good records are hard to find.  That is compared to Bad Records.

I totally agree with this post.

heh... when I first started I got old skewl stuff and some don't even get played ne more... fillers... hmmmm to me there is no suck thing. all my tracks have a place some where in my set. a good set tells a journey, and in the journey to me... there's not time for a break.

Dancerecords is out of stock too fast. I have better and cheaper connections that have newer tracks and can get here faster.

Thanks for trying though :)

Hello folks,

Although i'm not a DJ, but i regard your occupation as serious as any other. You're an importent component in people's free time & the club scene/culture in general.

It always amazed me how Tiesto could bring those 6 hour sets without loosing momentum.Mixing is tough as hell...how do you build a set, a mood/ambiance? What are your considerations when you select the tracks & the chronological order that guides the set?

Sorry for the nOObie questions... :)

hmm...well I think it's all of ur knowledge of the tracks u have... it's also the mood of the DJ in my personal experience... I get to know my tracks before I play them that way I know where to place them... at times they are perfect and some other times I they are out of place. That's just my input... I'd like to see someone elses point of view on this.

100% agree. I've been there plenty of time. Sometimes, searching bin can be the most frustrating thing when you're not finding the good tracks.

Online record stores are good for shopping from work or home, but nothing beats the suprise you get when you lay down that 12" on the platter and KNOW you have to buy it.

It's also frustrating when you have no vinyl stores nearby anyway so you can't search real bins. You have to rely on the audio samples that online stores put on the their sites.

Another problem is most of the US stores are either out of stock of the good stuff quickly or they don't have it for months. :(

Hello everyone Kaenow from Miami new to the board Thanks Mark for all the info

On the topic I have to agree. We have Grooveman music which is a good store but very over priced and they usually give all the gems to outta towners before they support there locals. Our they just get the out dated stuff. I have gotten really tired of record shopping because what you want is never there. So (A) join a really good record pool and (B) join a website that has mp3's. A really good one I buy all my mp3's from is http://www.dancetunes.com (id&t) and audiojelly.com, they have all the newest tracks and you never have to wait in line.
