Should Party107 Change to 192?
« on: September 27, 2004, 04:27:37 pm »
Well, this is a tough issue, and im just gonna give facts on it, and give my 2 cents.

Pros:
- switching to 192k gives us a better appearance, as we are the only station out there that isnt offering it.
- Because we will offer 192 it will keep us up in the fleet of stations on the internet.

Cons:
- Uses up more bandwidth, some people with small DSL packages may have slight trouble listening
- Becuase it uses more bandwidth, we cannot offer as many listening slots

thats my 2 cents

-not in any way will the posts on this thread determine what direction party goes in, but gives us a feel for what you (the listener) thinks, in the end the decision is between me and mark.

In my eyes, the cons outweigh the pros. Also forgot one con, not all DJs will be able to do 192, which might mean less live programming, etc.

If there was a real benefit to upgrading other than just having a better "appearance", then I may be more inclined to agree. As a note, we are NOT the only station not offering it (Digitally Imported is only 96k unless you pay $11.95 per month and even then its only 160k. Trance Airwaves is also only 160k).

My opinion will pretty much remain the same no matter what anyone says. 160k sounds just fine! I have two streams going now, one 160 and one 192 and I cannot tell ANY difference whatsoever. If there was a quality difference, I would consider my vote being yes, but since there really isn't, and Party107 isn't getting any donations like the stations that DO offer 192, we shouldn't change.

Theres my two cents.

Party should upgrade to 193k, then we'd really be ahead of the pack!  I can't tell the difference between 160 and 192, how much better then above CD quality do you need to get, jeesh.

Same comments as before. Cons outweigh the pros. No real gain except on "appearance", which quality programming can far surpass "appearance" anyday in my opinion.

Maybe in the future as a donation-based premium membership thing? Possibly. Also look at the votes, it seems everyone but one agrees. I say other areas need more focus.

My $.02 :p

[00:51] <@MACKerMD> too lazy to answer a thread so here's my 0ct comment: a) vinyl has a certain amount of reach in frequency.. this doesnt reach the 192kbit where CD-audio is +- 176kbit/s 16kbit under cdquality for VINYL is more than fine. all u cdmixers out there.. 16kbit in hi-frequencies is only noticable if ur tweaters cost more than ur soundcard..
[00:51] <@MACKerMD> b) the costs for the 32kbit upgrade for less than 16kbit 'enhance' isnt worth the ammount of sluts.. eh.. slots to give up for it.
[00:52] <@MACKerMD> dont think many would even notice the qualitydifference, but i do expect a lot of noobresponse from people unable to keepup with the stream [while theyre msn'in etc]
[00:52] <@MACKerMD> n thats MY 0ct comment on http://www.party107.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290
[00:53] * @MIXX941 agrees 100000%
[00:53] <@MACKerMD> [my comments are free :) ..]

I wasn't that lazy as I'd expected me to be :coffee:

160 is perfectly fine. If you do 192, you're only killing yourself with the bandwidth. You can't tell the difference between 160 and 192.
