Many people ask me whenever, whereever: " DO YOU SPIN ? "
Then I reply to them "No, I don't". Simply cause I already know/assume that they don't have nor take the time to understand how my style of spinnin' used to be (<- note the past tense)..
Back in the 90's I use to spin on my own parties. We did parties with ' SPIRAL TRIBE 23 - Mobile Unit', 'Unit Mobius', Jaydee (yes, the 'PLASTIC DREAMS'-Jaydee), Mark, Kosmo, Marque, Joost van Bellen etc. All for fun and mostly for free or a small fee (a bottle of coke would do fine)..
Back in those days, DJs spun way shorter sets than DJs to nowadays.
Quick mixes and sometimes a hardcut-break were pretty normal.
Until the late 90's people actually started to focus more on the long intervals,
transitions and breaks during a set, while I was used to a more 'story-telling'-method of spinning, the 'new'-method was based on a constant genre/theme/whatever-you-wanna-call-it and I had (<- again past tense) never spun a set in the new-method before.
Listening to 'my' DJs I presented to you during the UNLiMiTED FRiDAY events, made me buy more and more vinyls again and the urge rised up again to spin after so many years. But, I know I'm not Armin, even though I'm from the same town, that doesn't mean I spin the same genre as he does.
I think DJ Mike.M, DJ PEP-E, DJ PJOTER, Marco Verhoeven, DJ CO-AK, DJEFFREY, DJ Skiptag and the others are a good example of the diversity in music, who are from the same region as most of the well known DJs YOU know.
Recently, I 'voicerecorded' some 35 minutes while I was spinnin' some old and new stuff at DJ Mike.M's residence. This was during the broadcast of UF014XL, with DJ Michel B., DJ CO-AK and DJ DIZZLE. We did not record the stuff we spun that day in Hi-Quality, but a voicerecording would do fine.
While having company over I was browsin' through the recording and then my visitors asked me to keep 'that music playing from that-and-that part' and I complied.. after 35 mins, they heard my voice and DJ Mike.M's and realized that it was me spinning those 35mins, but their adrenaline and smiles on their faces were almost identical to those that were on my/our early 90s-parties.
In the Party107 chatroom I mentioned this in short and made a joke that I would post a POLL about me doing a set for you. .... but I started thinkin' ..
" WHY NOT ?! "
Therefor the next simple question:
SHOULD MACKerMD SPIN A SET FOR YOU ?!
(I'm happy to read all your comments)
