Hour 2: Morgan Page
(Right Click, Save As)

With over 130 remixes to his name, Morgan Page has earned a solid reputation for transferring insatiable pop energy to the dance floor in the form of banging, progressive house tracks.

The Pete York cover “Strange Condition,” a simple, spatial arrangement that highlights Page’s ability let his vocalists control the direction of a song, and not be driven towards emotional peaks and valleys by just synths and bass. Page uses a similarly subtle approach on “Tell Me Why,” featuring the velveteen vocals of Télépopmusik’s Angela McCluskey.

Elsewhere, Page enlists the talents of Matt Alber on “Agnus Dei” and Gabriel & Dresden alum Jan Burton on “Traces Remain” and the raucous “I’ve Had Friends.” On the moody “In The Dark,” Page himself takes a turn on the mic at the urging of another G&D contributor, Molly Bancroft, who was initially tapped to provide the vocals. For Page, it was simply the next logical progression in his maturation as a producer.

We catch up with Morgan Page, as he sets up the Vital Radio Guestmix.

M2J (Mahan Javadi) always brings something new to the table. Holding no musical boundaries, M2J spins a wide range of Electronic Music ranging from Downtempo to House to Breaks and more. In addition, Mahan has gained quite a reputation for integrating rare and unreleased mash-ups and remixes of popular hip-hop and rock tracks into his sets.

The intent is to always keep crowds guessing and excited. Flowing from style to style, his DJ sets revolves around music, rather than specific genres. Listeners experience and discover something new each time as it is mixed in with music they are already familiar with. These connections provide a set off point for exploring and noticing new types of music.

Hour 2: Arana
(Right Click, Save As)

Founder and resident DJ of the Wobble parties at Cielo in New York City, Arana relentlessly pursues the purest forms of house and techno for the dance floor, with a penchant for funk, indie/rock, polyrhythms and outerspace. He frequently champions lesser known masterworks to inspire authentic movement and feeling on the floor.

Sifting through thousands of tracks from underground labels all over the world, Arana carefully selects his musical building blocks to create unusual combinations of harmony, rhythm and melody, weaving together their common elements into energetic, tightly-executed sets.

Arana honed his musical ear composing on classical guitar and playing in rock bands starting at the age of 13. After moving to NYC to practice corporate law, he became mesmerized by dance music in 1999, taught himself to DJ in 2003 as he juggled life as a lawyer, and then launched the first Wobble parties in 2004. He currently focuses on his upstart tech-house label, Wobble Music, based in the Lower East Side and his monthly party at Cielo.

March was a busy month. I’ve been in the studio working on my Speedboats & Big Explosions duo with DJ Endgame. We wrapped up another three track EP in March that will be out, along with Hazel Eyes, on System Recordings NYC. The new EP features two brand new numbers: Trouble Woman and Strange Justice. The third track on the EP is my track Menagie, which I am thrilled to FINALLY be releasing.

We’re still at it too – back in the lab this weekend working on a collaboration with vocalist Nicole Simone (Late Miss July) as well as something very housey along the Hed Kandi vein. All in all, @SBBEMusic is turning out really great and I’ve been pouring the majority of my musical energy in to that project. I’m going to start sharing more of that stuff here on my site.

One final thing… My ‘Spark/Aura’ EP is finally out on Silk music this Tuesday, April 5th! Definitely one of the better progressive EPs I’ve released under my name – very happy with how this one turned out. If you like what you hear, grab a copy from Beatport!

Endgame is the host of Vital Radio, a weekly program that features the best electronic musicians from all across the world.  .

This week’s Vital Radio Resident Mix salutes one of the most iconic voices in dance music, Nadia Ali

As with any great era of music, there are always a handful of tracks that can be considered genre defining. For dance music -from the late 90′s to the new millennium – there were only a select few tracks that caught fire around the world. However, there was one track in particular that emerged from the underground and caught everyone off guard. At first, people knew Iio’s “Rapture” by the catchy “la, la, la” chorus as sung by a beautiful voice.

As the track emerged from the underground and blew up in the mainstream, “Rapture” became a true tour de force. Remixes from Creamer & K, Deep Dish and Armin van Buuren would follow and the track sold into the millions. Still, at the heart of what made “Rapture” so beautiful was that voice. That voice – and voice of a new generation in house music – belongs to Nadia Ali.

Tracklist:
1. Nadia Ali – Love Story (Sultan & Ned Shepard Remix)
2. Nadia Ali, Starkillers & Alex Kenji – Pressure (Original Mix)
3. Chris Reece feat Nadia Ali – The Notice (Khomha Remix)
4. Nadia Ali – Fine Print (Serge Devant Remix)
5. Tocadisco feat Nadia Ali – Better Run (Club Mix)
6. Nadia Ali – Fantasy (Morgan Page Remix)
7. John Creamer & Stephane K feat_ Nadia Ali – Something To Lose  (Cedric Gervais Remix)
8. IIO – Rapture 2007 (Recon mix)
9. Nadia Ali – Fine Print (tyDi Remix)

Hour 2: Eddie Thoneick
(Right Click, Save As)

2010 saw the release of Eddie Thoneick’s track ‘Funk’ on Subliminal Records, the famous imprint of his early supporter Erick Morillo. Also, Eddie was invited to mix and arrange the ‘Strictly Miami 2010‘ compilation for Strictly Rhythm. Today Eddie is not only part of the Subliminal Records family as a solo artist, but has teamed up with label head Erick Morillo for a giant collaboration.

The duo’s first releases are ‘Nothing Better’, a classy piece of peaktime house music with the divine Shena on the vocals, and the huge summer anthem ‘Live Your Life‘ featuring Shawnee Taylor.

With more Erick Morillo & Eddie Thoneick productions in the pipeline and a tour-diary that continues to expand, taking in cities across a landscape of continents from Asia and Australia to North America, South America and Europe, the word lies at Eddie’s feet for the taking.
