Polls and Reviews / Mallorca Lee - Let's Go Back [MLXL] Out Now
« on: March 02, 2010, 12:44:54 pm »

Release Date : 02/03/2010
Record Label : MLXL
Cat# : MLXL006
Media : MP3/WAV

2010 and as we continue ….. Mallorca Lee serves up his first release  -  "Lets Go Back".

This literally sounds like Mallorca nicked the TARDIS in a Bill & Ted inspired Adventure, kidnapped UNDERWORLD then went back to Detroit / Chicago in the early 90's via Mallorca's studio before giving the party drenched TARDIS back to the DOCTOR !! A driving arpeggiated bass line drenched in peak time bleeps and stabs with some vintage old skool vocals samples thrown in for good measure.

As the track builds to a breakdown that pays homage to the classic "Strings of Life" with its inspired orchestral strings section and filtered piano that builds the track to a full on, hands in the air, energy rush right to the bass line's thundering re appearance ...

Early support from Marco V, Judge Jules, Mark Sherry & DJ Choose.

Armin van Buuren "Tune of the Week"
Above & Beyond - playlisted 3 times on Trance Around The World

Ferry Tayle & Static Blue
had quite a 2009 with their huge L'Acrobat release doing the business across the summer months. With a bulging gig diary including Trance Energy, Ferry now looks certain to be one of the big stories of 2010.

Kicking of 2010 in quite emphatic style, the duo land with the long awaited follow up, Trapeze. Having seen heavy support to all the mixes on Armin's ASOT (Tune of the Week) and Above & Beyond's TATW, the hype is a boiling point already for this superb release.

The original has everything you want in an uplifting trance track; drive, power, lush melodies and heavenly vocals. Remix duties fall to Daniel Kandi, who's mix has already been made Tune of the Week by World No. 1 Armin van Buuren, and Arty, whose Digitally Enhanced Intro Mix has been used by Above & Beyond to open all their recent shows, and by Will Holland on his Digitally Enhanced Vol Three compilation, which is coming this March.

A huge, huge release once again for this super talented duo... look out for the album later this year!

Armin van Buuren ASOT Support!

Oliver P's been a prominent figure within the trance scene for several years, as part of the Fast Distance team with fellow producer Franz Hlusek.

Oliver has now gone solo and this is his first offering, which will be followed up later this spring with his Stonevalley project which has been featured on Digitally Enhanced Volume Three, also coming later this spring.

As you would expect Oliver delivers a double header of blistering peak time trance; the straight up Lost Without You - a brilliant thumping hands in the air number, and the more intelligent Philadelphia with is backed with a great remix from French stars Karybde & Scylla.

Audiojelly Date : 24/02/2010
Release Date : 10/03/2010
Label : Red Force Recordings
Cat# : RF019

Tracklisting:

1. Red Light Green Light (Original Mix)
2. Red Light Green Light (Adam Nickey Remix)
3. Red Light Green Light (Dave Horne Edit)
4. Red Light Green Light (Gravity's Amber Mix)

Already in stores so I'm a little late on the review this time but better late than never! Been a couple of months since the brilliant Redstar EP was released on Red Force and here's a new name as well as a new release on the Red label. Harry Dyer is the name and I can't say that I'm familiar with him but looking at the Red Force release history this single should be very promissing!

Original Mix
Surprisingly a very proggy tune. It's leaning a little towards the kind of "prog house" being released on labels like Silk Digital Records, etc but with a little more of a trancey edge though. I guess you could say the percussion is a little more exotic opposed to the more hard-edged trancey percussion applied in trance tracks. Great summer melodies as well as slow and pleasent build-up.

Adam Nickey Remix
Adam is pretty much connected to all prestigious labels in the business. His sense of simple yet captivating melodies is unmistakable and I think that it applies here as well. I would actually say that Nickey would be the perfect man to trance up a track in this style. The well-crafted piano infested breakdown sucks you in perfectly and should leave you with a smile on your face (that is if you're into this sort of trance).

Dave Horne Edit
Nothing super fancy about the Dave Horne Edit which is basically just a shortened version of the original. It's a more consice version though which captures the very essence and I think it would work well in the early stages of a trance set.

Gravity's Amber Mix
A trancey version from Harry himself. Primarily carried by a heavy and bouncing bassline but also filtering in the original melodies to great effect. A more techy version if you like. Quite impressive I must say from an unknown name but do feel a tad annoyed by a white-noize sounding synth which figures around the pay-off part of the track.

Verdict:
Red Force are yet again displaying that they aren't a one-way focused label only going for one particular style - and I absolutely salute that! I'm drawn by both the Adam Nickey and Original version. Adam's version is a near perfect peak-time trancer which will do much good in a melodic trance set. The original seems to capture what I'm very much into these days - that something which lies between progressive house and trance. Top stuff!!

Polls and Reviews / Vast Vision & Ram - Sandwriting [Fraction]
« on: February 23, 2010, 09:59:33 am »

OUT NOW: http://bit.ly/aIDGnN

Beatport Date : 23/02/2010
Release Date : 09/03/2010
Label : Fraction Records
Cat# : FRA033

Tracklist:

1. Sandwriting (Original Mix)
2. Sandwriting (Temple One Remix)
3. Sandwriting (Alex Lamb Remix)
4. Sandwriting (Vast Vision Intro Mix)

Here's something which is shaping up to be a big release from Fraction Records. Two big acts have joined forces to create this production called Sandwriting. Ram is especially know for tracks like "Call It A Night" and "RAMsterdam", but even more so because Jorn van Deynhoven delivered some chart topping remixes for those two. I do however feel that this guy (also known for being 1 half of the hard trance act Bas & Ram) is underrated and overshadowed by remixes. His record "Solid Hope" on Insatiable was nothing short of a bomb (hot tip: check the Propaganda Mix). Maybe this record will put him back into the limelight. His partners in crime on this record, Stijn Coppieters & Roland Andriese aka Vast Vision have had some solid and praised records out since their debut in 2005. Lately they seem to have improved more than ever.

Fraction says:
'Sandwriting' sees Vast Vision & Ram team up for the latest Fraction big-hitter with a super hot, up-tempo, main-room work out positively laden with enough atmosphere and charisma to warn off any remaining winter weather! From the punchy drum work, to the sun kissed guitar melodies, to the breath takingly serene breakdown, and then everything in between - this stunning Original Mix clearly has more than an eye towards the coming summer months!

Temple One takes charge of the first of the remixes, with an absolutely huge reworking for the hands in the air crowd. Vibrant, sizzling synth lines and full fire percussion provide enough energy to keep the dancefloor moving at all times, before Alex Lamb throws down a chunky, heads down no-nonsense stab laden groover! Finally, the Vast Vision boys themselves wrap things up perfectly with the hypnotic, and quite simply delicious 'Intro Mix' for those big set openers!

4 absolutely huge mixes to choose from!

Suncatcher joins Enhanced after impressing during 2009 with several standout releases. With several remixes and originals in the pipeline for 2010 on Enhanced he kicks off his account with two superb uplifting trancers.

Heading the package is Wildflowers. Packed with soaring pads and blissful piano lines, backed up by a beastly bottom end this is a real crowd pleaser. With a huge breakdown, giving one of those classic hands in the air moments, this will no doubt be a stand out track for the young producer.

The flip see's Ocean City up the pace and intensity with its no holds barred approach and quite blistering main lead.

Both tracks featured on this EP already topped the Audiojelly chart during their exclusive period. Check them out!

After Meridian and Dave Costa team up with Cat Martin for the classy prog trancer 'Empty Spaces'. Having remixed Will Holland's Tears In The Rain, this is After Meridian's first original work on the label.

Real warm bass and the lush melodies make this a great track for the dancefloor early on in the night.

Remixes come from Andrew Bennett and Funabashi. Bennett's remix is typical of his; smooth, slick progressive trance, and splicing / dubbing the vocals to great effect. Funabashi up the groove and add a sparkling top line to finish it off!

Polls and Reviews / Meridian - Positive Zero [Infrasonic]
« on: February 18, 2010, 12:20:41 pm »

Infrasonic keeps on serving the 4-trackers and here is another one. Meridian is making a return. It's now almost 3 years since his last release on Infrasonic which had big remixers as well as with this one. On the remix duties we have Thomas Datt, the (fast) rising star Suncatcher and the Digital Society boys, Med vs. Neil Bamford.

Release Date : 01/03/2010
Label : Infrasonic Recordings
Cat# : Infra033

Tracklist:

1. Original Mix
2. Thomas Datt Remix
3. Suncatcher Remix
4. Med vs. Bamford Remix

Original Mix
Rough edged trance with neat stabs, trippy melodies and a lush and well padded breakdown. The mix has an overall 2004 feel to it in my opinion.

Thomas Datt Remix
Datt starts out with a heavy kick drum and some soft hi hats. At the same time a melody emerges in the background and suddenly an acid line falls in as well as some heavier highs. A breathing effect triggers the bassline and this is were it takes off. This mix has an overall nice consistency and a thick and neat production quality to it. Not as upbeat as his earlier productions but certainly step up in quality from the original mix.

Suncatcher Remix
Suncatcher usually goes for the 9 minute mixes (or so I have observed lately) but this one is around 6 minutes. The vocal snippets are much brighter and plays a bigger role in this mix and the bassline has an electro feel. While I'm not fully convinced by the bassline I do feel completely satisfied when introduced to his breakdown. Lovely combination of melodies and a great way to build up a perfect mood.

Med vs. Neil Bamford Remix
As expected this mix is much more of an energetic affair. A quick build-up, fast moving melodies and glitch effects to spice it up and move things forward.

Enhanced favourite Estiva had a fantastic 2009 with releases like I Feel Fine, his debut compilation Enhanced Sessions and remixes for the likes of Couldharbour and gigs all around Europe.

With his collaboration with Temple One 'November Lovely' still causing serious damage in the sets of the worlds elite, he shows no sign of holding up with yet another of his outstanding three track EP's.

Genuinely, we don't think you will find an artist who delivers such diverse and quality three trackers as this young Dutchman; Stella EP, Strawberry Fields EP, I Feel Fine EP; all have been absolutely outstanding.

Estiva now delivers something slightly different from his normal sound, but still packed with the unmistakable Estiva melodies.

The rock influenced Friends & Enemies leads the EP, with its huge synths and heavy percussion, and when the top line enters on the 4 minute mark, it's just perfect. The huge main room Privilege is something that without doubt would take the roof off the Ibizan superclub, whilst Dalmatia again hits you with one of the biggest leads we've heard in a while.

Outstanding once again!
