Polls and Reviews / XGenic - Around Me [Enhanced Progressive]
« on: December 28, 2009, 04:52:17 pm »

Beatport : 28/12/2009
Release Date : 11/01/2010
Record Label : Enhanced Progressive
Format : MP3/WAV

Leandro Fiorio & Marcelo Rollano aka XGenic have steadily made a name for themselves over the past couple of years with support for their releases from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond and Ferry Corsten.

They debut on Enhanced with Around Me, a far more progressive track from their typical uplifting style. A track with real excitement and energy with tight, punchy percussion makes this a delight and a real floor mover.

Remix duties fall to Steve Brian, The Flyers & Mike Sonar and also sees a welcome return form Maarten Hercules. Steve Brian's remix of Temple One's Sahara Nights has seen amazing support and surely this remix will follow suit; it really is superb once again; an amazingly understated pounding prog trancer!

The Flyers & Mike Sonar return after their Judge Jules 'Tried and Tested Tune Of The Week' remix for Sahara Nights, and they add their trademark sound to this in perfect style.

Lastly Maarten Hercules returns to Enhanced with a classy interpretation of the original. Harmonics was a huge release for Maarten, and one of the first releases on Enhanced Progressive so it's great to see him back on the label.

Support: Ferry Corsten, Activa, Andy Moor, Aly & Fila, Estiva, John Askew, Jon O'Bir, MIKE, Ruben de Ronde, Tom Colontonio, Will Holland and many more

Polls and Reviews / Chapter XJ - Resurrection [Monster Digital]

TUNE OF THE WEEK - Armin van Buuren
2 x ASOT plays - Armin van Buuren
2 x TATW plays - Above & Beyond

Getting ready for the Christmas cheer, we're bringing the releases fast paced in time for all the new year parties and this one is no exception. For his debutant release with the Monster camp we have Chapter XJ coming onboard with a fine release that is 'Resurrection'.

Chapter XJ known for his previous releases on Alex M.O.R.P.H. & Woody van Eyden's label Fenology Records, especially with the standout track 'Again' that really did the damage for most DJ's on the globe, has delivered once again a top notch piece of uplifting trance.

Resurrection has been kindly remixed by none other than current hot trance producer Jorn van Deynhoven, who's sitting nicely in the Beatport top 10 with his remix for RAM's 'RAMsterdam. The Original's not bad either! Expect big support for both mixes over the winter months.

Polls and Reviews / Bryan Kearney & Liam Melly - The Other Half [Fraction]
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:13:51 pm »

Bryan Kearney & Liam Melly join forces for Fraction's latest release with a full force, big room sledge hammer entitled 'The Other Half'. Thundering basslines and razor sharp percussion parts build the track into frenzy before dropping into an extra large breakdown, providing an impeccable fusion of peak time, no nonsense tranced out madness!

On the flip side, Thr3shold grab the track firmly by the scruff of the neck and tear it up into a real hard hitting, trance-kissed crowd controller, before Mac & Taylor throw down another ever popular teched out floor filler!

Massive!

Polls and Reviews / Bruni Bergeron - Downrising [Infrasonic]
« on: December 18, 2009, 11:00:44 am »

I'm not sure "long awaited" might even cover it; I remember DJ Precision, who ran the legendary Somatic Sense / Profuse label, playing this tune alot. I also remember that he almost managed to release it, but we just weren't that lucky. It has litterally been years of waiting now and it's good to see that Infrasonic has snatched this one up and thrown in some remixes from some talented names.

Original Mix
Before the 4/4 kick drum arrangement sets in, Bruni introduces us to a very grand and dramatic intro. The progression and composition of various percussion hits sits nicely in the production and reaches just a little further than the standard trance setup (thank you!). The melody builds up nicely and the breakdown also does the track, however, the pay-off is what it's all about - at least for me - the main lead is very sharp and the underlying bassline makes it a perfect dance track and I can almost visualize the dancefloor infront of me. Superb!

Sequentia Remix
1 part German and 1 part Dutch, this duo has delivered a good bunch of tunes in their time and as well some good remixes. This remix follows a more straight and strict dancefloor structure without any intro and starts right off with the 4-to-the-floor beats. The boys pretty much re-used the sharp melody (albeit with a few modifications) and added a more aggressive and rough bassline, delicous pads and a few additional sweeping melodies to fatten up the mix.

Solis Remix
A bit more of a moody feel in this track/mix. It feels like the tune is holding back on something and it kinda does, which comes to show in the breakdown where it opens up. Uplifting track with some heavy sub-bass.

XGenic Remix
The Argentinian gang, XGenic, rounds off the package with a full-fire mix. Very straight-to-the-point with fast melodic progressions and a big atmospheric breakdown.

Polls and Reviews / Hydro Aquatic - Impact / Moon River [Monster Tunes]
« on: December 18, 2009, 10:19:19 am »

Young Polish producer Kamil Kaminski is back with another record for the Monster label. Probably alot of people out there remember his first release "Aurora / Healthy" which wasn't a bad 2-tracker at all! Also worth to mention, is his track Hydrosphere which so far, is my favourite work of his. Well, here is a new one, already out in all stores and available to buy.

Impact
The a-side (or since this probably wont see a vinyl release, "track 1") builds up with a sizzling bass synth which slowly reveals itself, step-by-step. The plucks starts to appear and induces some melody in the track. The track then dives into a deep breakdown with some fat pads. The melody and build-up feels a little standard to be honest, but when the plucks come into play again along with a piano line, the track actually feels right.

Moon River
This one feels like the obvious pick of the two. It's more solid and polished. The melody works better, has a sense of uniqeness and the bass is a whole lot more "big room".

As stated, Moon River overall works alot better. The release has a love/hate thing to it; I think if uplifting is your style, this will suit you well. However, are you only part-time uplifting lover this might be a turn-off. Check out the samples and judge for yourselves:

Polls and Reviews / Nurettin Colak - Compassion [Arisa Audio]
« on: December 14, 2009, 03:41:09 pm »

01. Original Mix
02. Danilo Ercole Remix
03. Lee Haslam Remix

Turkish prodigy child Nurettin Colak once again blows us away with a brilliant new track, Compassion. The follow up of his massive collaboration with label co-owner Faruk Sabanci. The Original is a big uplifting trance record full of joy and emotion, not to forget the awesome piano work at the breakdown!

On remix duties, South America's Danilo Ercole provides a prog/tech take with the trance elements of the original, an invitation to the darker side indeed!

No introduction is needed for Lee Haslam. We are just happy to have him under our roster and his remix is simply deadly. A definite killer which will destroy every venue its being spun at!

***** Mixmag - 'TUNE OF THE MONTH' *****

2xA State Of Trance - Armin van Buuren
2xTrance Around The World - Above & Beyond

Things That Happen was initially showcased in its Temple One form on Digitally Enhanced Vol 2 (mixed by Will Holland), and when Mixmag reviewed the compilation, making it Compilation of the Month, they asked Will for the release package for the single and subsequently made it Tune of the Month in the following issue!

After a lull over the latter part of 09, Will's promised to up his production rate over the coming months and has a second single ready to go as well as two remixes, all due out in the first quarter of 2010. This next release, although more laid back than usual, is a typical production of his; melodic, uplifting and with killer vocals once again.

The Temple One remix really is something special and we've been inundated with requests for its release since the compilation, Joe Garrett once again proving he's the man to 'give goose bumps to the deceased' with a breakdown that will literally make every single hair on your body stand to attention!

Mystery Islands also goes for the knockout punch and delivers a fantastic remix that closes off the release in fine style!

Support: Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Activa, Alex M.O.R.P.H, Andy Moor, Estiva, John O'Callaghan, Jon O'Bir, MIKE, Ronski Speed, Ruben de Ronde, Tom Colontonio, Will Holland, 7 Skies, Adam White, Charlie G, Daniel Heatcliff, Daniel Kandi, Danjo, Deep Voices, Digital Nature, Dimitri Kechagias, DJ Feel, DJ Klubbingman, DJ Observer, Ernesto vs Bastien, Fast Distance, Flash Brothers, Haris C, Ilya Soloview, Jonas Hornblad, Jonathan Martin, Joop, Jorn van Deynhoven, Kris Andrews, Kristina Sky, Manuel Le Saux, Mark Eteson, Mark Pledger, Michael Angelo, Paul Pearson, Phillip Alpha, Robert Geitleman, Sebastian Brandt, Signum, Steve Anderson, Suzy Solar, Talla 2XLC, Temple One, Tempo Giusto, The Flyers, Tritonal, Xgenic, Zac Slade and many more...

Cat#: 8SR001
Format: MP3/WAV

1. Troubled Relationship (Original Mix)
2. Troubled Relationship (Nurettin Colak Remix)

1st release is from Easton who's name I've also seen on Alter Ego Pure not to forget on Coll & Tolland's (Firestorm's) Edge Recordings some weeks ago. Troubled Relationship has got a nasty sidechained bassline, some heavy guitar influences and a trancey atmosphere. The remix from Nurettin Colak is a faster interpretation with a big break and a huge lead line.

Cat#: 8SR002
Format: MP3/WAV

1. Never Tell (Original Mix)
2. Never Tell (Austin Taiga Remix)

Vegar has paid nice attention to the percussion and it works. It has some interesting melodies and a strange vocal; strange but also appealing and it fits well in with the melodies. The remix from Austin Taiga delivers the remix and churns out a production with more minimalistic influences and a deeper feel. The vocal remains but he lifts the track up with a strong main lead which is why I think it's the best of the two!

Cat#: 8SR003
Format: MP3/WAV

1. Dreamer Again (Original Mix)
2. Dreamer Again (Abstract Vision & Elite Electronics Remix)
3. Dreamer Again (DSI Remix)
4. Dreamer Again (FRONT Remix)

I've heard the name Etnosphere before but I don't remember any tunes though. A dark and slightly groovy prog trancer with some light melodies. The Absctract Vision & Elite Electronic remix is a full-on trance uplifter. My favourite of the bunch would be the DSI remix, a nice atmospheric prog trancer which doesn't sound as ordinary as the rest of the versions. Consider FRONT has been around for some time, I'm surprised his remix isn't 'bigger'. Sorry to this but it sounds quite dire, and this is why I would recommend the DSI or the other two.

Beatport: 08/12/2009
Release Date: 20/12/2009
Label: Addictive Global
Cat#: ADDGLO008A

This is the remix edition of Anton Firtich's Mirage. Already saw some early support from Gareth Emery. I reviewed the first edition of this release and you can read more here: http://trance.nu/v4/forum/viewtopic.php?t=174187

Usually when Jochen's name pops up on a release, then you will know that you're in for big room trance so I'm most definitely excited about this follow-up from Addictive Global.

Review

It feels like Jochen has taken a deeper approach to this mix, with a bit of progressive chunkiness. He uses a soft bassline, sharp hi hats and cool drum hits. The track then starts to take shape and fires off a techy lead synth just before the break which has got the same sounding synth as Anton used in his original. However, Jochen Miller somehow brings alot more colour out in the lead. The track then returns to the the techy and chunky part. The track overall has a whole lot more big room appeal than the original and I can see why Gareth has favoured this in his latest live sets. I most definitely prefer this one over the original version even though I was a fan of that as well!

Polls and Reviews / Neal Scarborough & Gary Maguire - As You Are [Fraction]
« on: December 05, 2009, 11:57:57 am »

2 of Irelands finest trance talents, Neal Scarborough & Gary Maguire, team up in the studio to provide their latest tech trance pressure bomb 'As You Are'. The boys highly addictive and ferociously cool blend of melodic breakdown elements tied into bass rattling kick drums and precision synth work ensure this track will shake the biggest dancefloors in the coming months.

On remix duties, the undisputed master of all things uplifting, Bjorn Akesson, takes to the faders, fusing his unmistakably energetic imprint into the action, while Mac & Taylor take care of the harder crowds with a full fire barn stormer!

Review

Teaming up for the first time is label resident Neal Scarborough and Fraction newcomer Gary Maguire to deliver 'As You Are'.  The Original Mix is a no holds barred full on tech monster.  The way it managed to capture me is the amazing production talent of the two guys at hand here in on the top of there game.  It reminds me of Wiretap and that is a good thing, Neal is a veteran at the game and Gary shows that he is one for the future with his amazing synths and percussion during the breakdown which gives the tune a certain edge that alot of trance is missing at the moment.  An amazing collab for the label!

Swede' Bjorn Akesson is drafted in for remix number one.  He gives the tune a makeover with his signature style that has taken him to great things during the last year and a half.  What I really like in this mix is the way he makes the tune a little less techy and more towards the melodic side of things with his excellent work during the breakdown which reminds you why he is so in demand for remixes at the moment.  Excellent use of a minimal vocal chop is just one of many reasons as to why this remix stands out.  Highly recommended in my opinion.

Young Brits Mac & Taylor continue there rise to the top with a remix that blows all the other mixes away, its that good.  I could not believe that the original could be topped in terms of pure energy but this is just insane!  The song just as a whole has a more clean feel to it, with everything being taken up a notch.  The break is even more drawn out which in my opinion is what makes tech trance what it is.  Perfect remix and a superb way to round out the package.

9/10

Polls and Reviews / Digitalis - Memento [Monster Tunes]
« on: November 29, 2009, 05:39:14 am »

Release Date: 30/11/2009
Label: Monster Tunes
Cat#: MONSTER034
Format: MP3/WAV

1. Memento (Suncatcher Remix)
2. Memento (Original Mix)

Digitalis is a young DJ/Producer and label owner. He is the man behind Tranceflo Records which he is managing along with Björn Hodel. I personally remember this guy from a single a few years ago called "Sea Of Dreams" which wasn't too bad at all.

Here is a man who is pretty much all over the place with his productions at the moment. He's injected a not too over the top electro tinged bassline which gives the track some groove and edge. In the break Suncatcher goes all Daniel Kandi with a few piano notes. In addition to that some soft pads and a melody that rises and blows all up when the bass pops back in. The track has a nice flow and a gorgeous melody. Lovely stuff here!

The Original version of the track feels more energetic than the remix. The bassline has got a very nice Mike Shiver feel to it which certainly is a plus. Digitalis takes his time to build up the energy and the break seems like a succes but the pay-off isn't as satisfying as I had hoped for. It's like you're waiting for a bomb to be dropped but it just never happens.

Verdict
Not my favourite single on Monster Tunes this year but the Suncatcher Rmx sure is solid. This guy is one to watch out for!
